A lot of mecha are comprised of a head, a torso, arms, legs, and a vernier system. Each part has a particular purpose.
Head: This is where the cockpit is at. Torso: Your body armor. Simple as that. Arms: You use guns and whatnot with these. Legs: You move with these. Vernier System: Vernier systems are basically rocket packs for mecha.
Sometimes, your mech is going to get hit. When this happens, usually nothing serious happens. However, if a specific part is targeted (such as an arm, a leg, etc.) that part could get damaged or worse, be completely destroyed.
If your head is destroyed: It's game over for the pilot. If your Torso is destroyed: this decreases the armor capability significantly. if your arms are destroyed: Guns and melee weapons will become unusable. If your legs are destroyed: You won't be able to move very far. If your vernier system is destroyed: Say bye-bye to jumping higher.
