No, I'm not British. Mega Drive sounds so much cooler than Genesis.
Anyway, I bought a Genesis for my dad yesterday, and now I can play those five (excuse me, ten) games I've been wanting to play. For the record, I'm not going to review Columns, since I already own a hard copy of that game, and it sucks anyway.
So, here's a quick rundown of the games I got, and what I think of them. REVIEW GET!
Let's start with the Genesis 6-Pak: a compilation of six games, five of which I'm going to review.
Sonic The Hedgehog: The first Sonic game ever, and is much better than that one game for the 360/PS3. You know the one. Pure, unadulterated Sonic gameplay.
The Revenge of Shinobi: One of the most well known games in the Shinobi series, one of the most well known ninja games, and is composed by Yuzo Koshiro, DJ/Orchestra Conductor Extraordinare. The makings of a great game. Only problem? It's hard.
Streets of Rage: Another game composed by Koshiro, this one's a beat-'em-up. Pretty slow, but its still cool.
Super Hang-On: Classic Arcade Motorcycle Action, now featuring a simulation mode! Awesome.
Golden Axe: Another arcade port from the Genesis's launch, this time a medieval beat-'em-up featuring magic potions that PWN ALL. A great, if not decent, game.
Next up is one of the coolest Arcade-to-Genesis ports ever:
NBA Jam: Midway's first really cool game, NBA Jam made over one billion dollars in the arcade during its run. The Genesis version, obviously, loses a bit of the graphical stuff, but still ends up being awesome anyway.
Then, Interplay's awesome superhero:
Earthworm Jim: While the Genesis might have got gipped by the Sega CD version, that still doesn't mean this is a bad game, oh no. It means this game was so good they had to rerelease it! Clever level design and jokes really help, too.
Next, the best Hockey Game ever:
NHLPA Hockey '93: With the best theme for a hockey game ever, NHLPA '93 is one cool simulation hockey game. Quite possibly one of the best EA Sports games ever. (technically, it's EASN, but ESPN got on their asses about that, so it's EA Sports now.)
Finally, the one with that mouse.
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse: One of the two best Mickey Mouse games ever (It's partner-in-crime being Capcom's Magical Quest), you're on a quest to rescue Minnie before an evil witch steals her look. Disney used to license out to people before making the games themselves, and this was one of the best.
